Harvey Williams Cushing was a renowned American neurosurgeon, pathologist, writer, and draftsman. He wrote a biography of physician William Osler in three volumes. Cushing was a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a foreign member of the Royal Society. His biography of William Osler is still widely read and studied today. Cushing was married to Katherine Stone Crowell and had three children: Mary Benedict Cushing, Betsey Cushing Roosevelt Whitney, and Barbara Cushing. Cushing's career spanned over four decades.
